ucla held a gradbar at the theater tonight and showed- what else? groundhog day. if you haven't seen it, i'm sure the plot sounds familiar. begruntled weatherman guy stuck in small-town PA for coverage of the annual groundhog prediction of whether there will be 6 more weeks of winter.
there is.
a blizzard holds him against his will in town for the night and he wakes up the next morning. on groundhog day. again. so you get the idea, he has some angst and suicidality and satisfies all his basic desires before he begins to learn how to show compassion and love others. and in the end, a good heart sets him free to start a new day.
ok not so realistic, but enjoyable. the food and drink come after the movie- standard fare. as hue steps away for a moment, susan is trapped by 2 grad students- computer science and an MD/PhD biomed engineering.
i dont think a description is necessary, but hue returns and small talk is made for about an hour about burning man and retinal photoreceptors. we're scavengers - we admit it. the plan was to eat, drink and go home. be merry wasnt on the list, but it was nice to chitchat for a bit. once boredom overtook though, we called it a night.
pictures from the event can be found here.
