we pick up our crib on Jan 2 from bergstrom's, courtesy of dale. it's antique black with reddish highlights. it's the vicki by sorelle. hue assembles it on 1/7 without too much trouble.
our first lamaze class was on 1/3 and a tour of the labor and delivery unit on 1/7. the class is a bit hokey. 12 couples deep breathing in the dark together. in fact, during the second meeting one of the guys actually falls asleep and starts snoring. apparently the relaxation technique is quite effective (at least for the partner). the teacher connie o'neill highly recommends a birthing ball and classical baroque music. baroque apparently has the right rhythm for contractions at 60 bpm.
all the rooms have cd players and computers, so we start planning our birth collection. susan typically listens to "light classical" on digital cable television and has a few random favorites (mozart, bizet, spanish guitar). evidence is hard to come by about the effects, but at the very least we think that after birth babies recognize music that they hear in utero, and it can be calming. it may also promote brain development, but who knows for sure. at least it sounds good.
