bacon bread

the second day of our return back, joan makes us some wonderfully delectable strawberry german pancakes and get to sample some of the infamous huckleberry honey. the risk was worth the sweetness.

on our way to steve and mary's place, we stop at zingerman's to pick up some bagels and bacon bread. that's right, there's bacon baked into the bread. the couple overhears a lady in line commenting that bacon makes everything taste better. it's confirmed. cheese now has legitimate contender for the best condiment title. we also stop at trader joe's to pick up some other sides for steve's beer can chicken. surprisingly their two buck chuck is actually $3. however they have our favorite baby spinach salad and some amazing hot salsa not available locally for us.

while at steve and mary's, we get to visit with niece and nephews. they all have grown and have such unique personalities. tim was quite studious and focused on building his airplanes from a book. abigail is shy and loves to hide behind her mother and father. jonathan is mischievous and has a glint of his eye daring to escape the house at any and every opportunity. mary informs us that she can't leave jonathan unsupervised long enough to take a shower.

we bring the nintendo ds and share it with the kids. the twins haven't developed the motor coordination to play with the ds, so it's really tim who get to play while the siblings look on. still the kids are interested in playing with whatever each other has. call it a case of the grass is always greener.

our missing luggage is delivered later that evening. with it come our bag of swag. we didn't really think about how it would be distributed. oops. we're not used to having to think about sharing. some items break in transit, but steve is a wonder with super glue and mends our "junk" back to good as new.

it's almost midnight, we're exhausted from eating/sharing pictures/stories watching sponge bob and decide to head back to joan's place to get some rest. kids can really take it out of you!

Ha! I like the last line of this entry... a little foreshadowing...

I wish I had a picture of this... Earlier this week, Abby came to me and reported, "Johnny's outside naked!" Oh, great, I am thinking. Lately he's been wandering into our neighbors' yards to explore and has even made it three houses away! Luckily, he was on our deck riding his tricycle! And, yup, totally nekkid.
